maxit Floor screeds help to fast-track Tyneside hospitals in UK

At the Freeman Hospital a new wing will house a new Cancer and Renal Services Centre providing state-of-the-art facilities. Here, some 20 000m2 of maxit Floor 4150 FineFlow commercial floor screed will be installed during the new-build project.

At Newcastle Royal Victorian Infirmary, where a new wing of 8 000 m2 is being incorporated into the original Victorian hospital, maxit Floor 4150 is being used along with maxit 4655 DuroFlow Rapid, a rapid drying light industrial screed and maxit Floor 4610 DuroTop, a hard-wearing self-levelling floor screed.

Several miles of corridors, plus wards, operating theatres, treatment rooms, laboratories, public areas, staff areas and other facilities will benefit from the special properties of heavy duty maxit Floor self-levelling screeds.

The advanced chemical composition of maxit Floor screeds provides a fast-track solution, combining rapid curing and providing a surface tolerant to adhesives. This means that floors can be re-opened to follow-on trades within 24 hours and final floor finishes, mainly vinyl, can be installed at relative humidity below 90 percent without the risk of the adhesive and vinyl reacting and delaminating.

The Freeman hospital project is scheduled for completion in 2008 with the Royal Victorian hospital redevelopment being completed in phases up to 2013.
